Omnia Vincit Amor

My teacher once said to me that the fundamental principle on which to build all the others is Love Conquers All. It was years later that I came across the full quotation (from Virgil): Omnia vincit amor et nos cedamus amori - Love conquers all so let us yield to love.

It's a lovely idea but if that is the case why is there so much hate and destruction in the world when there are still people putting out a lot of love. The people with hate and destruction in their selves are too insensitive to feel love and actually it seems like hate and destruction conquers all. Perhaps I am missing the true sense of this phrase.

Omnia vincit odium?

Love is the force or energy of connexion - giving, to put it simply. It is what is there already but which you can join and add to, or react against for temporary self-gain (profit). As a lover you are one with the process of love - you connect and become everything. As a hater you disconnect and fester in your own petty world. There's no comparison really.

Smile and the world smiles with you.
Cry and you cry alone.

Maybe if you're a gandi or martin luther king, then love does conquor all, even the disconnected. But we don't have enough of these people to save the planet right now.
